- Georgia is one of two states to hold runoff elections for general elections (with Louisiana)
- In the event where no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast in the general election (50%), a run-off election between the candidates receiving the two highest numbers of votes will take place
- As of Nov. 14, Democrats candidate Sen. Raphael Warnock received 49.41% of votes with Republican candidate Herschel Walker gaining 48.52%
- Though Georgians set new records for voter turnout in the general election, a shorter timetable for voting in the runoff elections may disadvantage Democrats
- Georgians will have just five weekdays beginning November 28 to cast their ballots for either Sen. Warnock or Walker
- Democrats will retain control of the Senate for the next two years, but Georgia’s runoff could prove instrumental in determining the sway that some of the party’s more conservative members have, including Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ)
