Sen. Lamar Alexander (R) released a new internal poll (North Star Opinion Research (R); 600 GOP primary LVs; Aug. 19-22; +/- 4%) showing him with a 69-24% percent approval rating among GOP primary voters. The survey shows Alexander leading state Sen. Joe Carr (R), 64-22%; Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett (R), who is considering a run, 62-23%; attorney/former Williamson County GOP chair Kevin Kookogey (R), another potential, 69-15% and announced candidate Brenda Lenard (R), 69-16%. (release)

Alexander is once again showing he isn’t taking the threat of a primary lightly. The internal poll follows a new radio ad Alexander released over the weekend and comes as the senator amps up his fundraising efforts.
