AL GOV: Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle’s (R) started airing his first TV ad “on network TV, cable TV, and digital media across Alabama” on Wednesday. The spot highlights the “battle” to improve the state’s economy and oppose abortion rights. It closes: “If the battle is to make Alabama better, we need a Battle to lead us.” (release)

CA GOV: Restore Our Values, the super PAC supporting businessman John Cox (R), placed a $40,000 media buy. (California Target Book)

“Two of California’s most powerful interest groups are colliding in the race to run the nation’s largest state, threatening to upend a legislative stalemate between the state’s largest teacher’s unions and charter school advocates.” (The Hill)

GA GOV: Former Navy SEAL Clay Tippins’ third TV ad slams Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle (R) for flying in charter flights, raising taxes, and failing to reduce traffic. Tippins: “I don’t fly over problems. I fix them.” (release)

Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s (R) spokesman told critics to “get over” his ad that featured him pointing a rifle at a teenager. The FCC prevents stations from pulling the ad. (11Alive)

State Sen. Hunter Hill (R) “said he would support legislation that would give the state oversight over Atlanta’s bustling airport, saying it would help stave off corruption and pave the way for a second major airport in Georgia. “ (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

SD GOV: State Attorney General Marty Jackley (R) and Rep. Kristi Noem (R) at an Americans for Prosperity forum Tuesday “avoided insulting one another but took shots at their opponent’s roles in Congress or in state government.” (Sioux Falls Argus Leader)

TX GOV: Houston investor Andrew White (D), faces former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez (D) in the May 22 Democratic runoff, “said Tuesday he would divest from a border security company he owns if he becomes the party’s gubernatorial candidate. Geovox Security Inc., which White has owned for two decades, sells technology that can find people hiding in vehicles. White has said it is used ‘to protect people’s lives’ and make sure they are not suffocating as they are smuggled into the country. Critics of White and the company have said he profits off the suffering of immigrants. Even after Jolt, a group that mobilizes young Latino voters, endorsed White over his Latina opponent, the group’s the executive director said it was concerned about his ownership.” (Dallas Morning News)
