Harper says no to Senate
GOP Rep. Gregg Harper of Mississippi, who is retiring from the House after this term, is not interested in running for the special election to succeed Sen. Thad Cochran and would not accept an appointment to the seat, The Hill reports.
Club for Growth endorses Pounds, Wright
The Club For Growth endorsed two Texas Republicans in House runoffs to be held on May 22: Bunni Pounds, former campaign manager for Jeb Hensarling, in the 5th District, and Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Ron Wright in the 6th District. Pounds earned 22 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary to state Rep. Lance Gooden‘s 30 percent, while Wright led retired Naval aviator Jake Ellzey 45-22 percent.
Dems lead House, Senate generic ballot in new polls
A Quinnipiac University poll shows Democrats leading the generic House ballot 48 percent to 38 percent, and the generic Senate ballot 49 percent to 39 percent. Among independents, Democrats have a 12-point lead for the House and a 11-point lead for the Senate. A Monmouth University poll has Democrats leading the generic congressional ballot 50 percent to 41 percent, up from a 2-point lead in January.
