Poll Finds Wide-Open GOP Primary to Challenge Kaine

Kaine in the survey has a comfortable lead over all of his opponents.

A new poll from the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University (Feb. 5-28; 1,562 RVs; +/- 2.5%) shows a wide-open GOP primary to face Sen. Tim Kaine (D). Prince William County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart (R) takes first with 16 percent, followed by 2013 lieutenant governor nominee E.W. Jackson at 7 percent, state Del. Nick Freitas (R) at 6 percent, and Army veteran Ivan Raiklin (R) at 1 percent.

“Kaine showed a 20-plus point advantage over his potential rivals in the survey. In head-to-head matchups, Kaine consistently polled at 56 percent, with Stewart at 32 percent, Jackson at 32 percent and Freitas at 33 percent." (release)
