Investment adviser Dan Kiley (R) announced his campaign to challenge Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) just before Wednesday’s filing deadline.

“Kiley wouldn’t comment on [President] Trump directly. He said he strongly supports the administration’s financial policies.”

“He said he will initially fund his campaign himself and the he’s in the process of hiring a staff. He said, though, that he expects to attract small donors and contributors from his base of former clients as the campaign progresses.” (Columbus Dispatch)

MAKING A PLEA. Investment banker Michael Gibbons (R) “is calling on the Ohio Republican State Central Committee not to endorse anyone in his race.”

Gibbons: “For Republicans to win in November, we need a united party and grassroots who are not disheartened by a rigged system. I’m urging all of you to vote not to endorse in open primaries—not for the good of my campaign—but for a unified party in November.”

“The GOP leaders are scheduled to meet Friday morning in Lewis Center to consider endorsements for the May 8 primary.” (Columbus Dispatch)
