After previously starting an exploratory committee, philanthropist Neal Simon (I) has officially launched a challenge to Sen. Ben Cardin (D).

Simon: "It’s about trying to do something that changes the way Washington works. The government is not listening — Congress is not listening — to the people of Maryland."

In order to get onto the ballot, Simon must submit 10,000 signatures by the beginning of August. Simon joins former Army Private Chelsea Manning (D) who is also running for Cardin’s seat. (Baltimore Sun)
