Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) “announced the endorsement of several Iowa Republican” and “conservative movement leaders,” including 2014 IA-03 candidate Robert Cramer (R), Republican National Committeeman Steve Scheffler, “eight members of the Iowa GOP State Central Committee,” and more. STEAK OUT. All seven Democratic candidates addressed the Steak Fry political rally. State Sen. Nate Boulton (D) and businessman Fred Hubbell (D) “used the event as a show of force, each buying 300-some tickets for supports and marching their chanting, sign-waving crowds through the gates in matching T-shirts.” (Des Moines Register)

Former state party chair Andy McGuire (D) performed CPR on a woman choking on food at the event. (Des Moines Register)

WON’T BUDGE(T). “Reynolds’ staff is dismissing a letter from” state Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald (D) “that questions the legality of a budgetary move aimed at addressing a shortfall. … Fitzgerald sent a letter Friday to the Republican governor about the $7.2 billion state budget that ended in June. He says revenue tied to the budget did not drop below a certain legal threshold that’s needed for tapping an emergency fund.” (AP)
