Mason-Dixon: Gillespie, Northam Fare Best in General Election

Former RNC Chair Ed Gillespie (R) re­mains the most well-known can­did­ate in the field of po­ten­tial re­place­ments to Gov. Terry McAul­iffe (D), ac­cord­ing to a new Ma­son-Dix­on poll (Jan. 5-10; 625 RVs; +/-4%).

Can­did­ates’ fa­vor­able/un­fa­vor­able rat­ings among all voters:

Gillespie: 25-13%
Lt. Gov. Ral­ph Northam (D): 17-8%.
Former Rep. Tom Per­ri­ello (D): 15-6%
Prince Wil­li­am County Board of Su­per­visors Chair­man Corey Stew­art (R): 13-7%
State Sen. Frank Wag­n­er (R): 4-1%
Dis­til­lery own­er Den­ver Riggle­man (R): 2-0%.

Among Demo­crats (250 RVs):

Northam: 31-5%
Per­ri­ello: 21-3%

Among Re­pub­lic­ans (206 RVs):

Gillespie: 31-3%
Stew­art: 16-4%
Wag­n­er: 5-1%
Riggle­man: 2-1%

Gillespie also fared bet­ter than any oth­er can­did­ate in head-to-head match­ups with po­ten­tial gen­er­al elec­tion op­pon­ents.

Gillespie vs. Northam: 44-41%
Northam vs. Stew­art: 45-37%
Gillespie vs. Per­ri­ello: 45-36%
Per­ri­ello vs. Stew­art: 40-38% (re­lease)

GOOD STOCK. Reps. Bob Good­latte (R) and Bar­bara Com­stock (R) as well as former Reps. Randy For­bes (R) and Robert Hurt (R) of­fi­cially en­dorsed Gillespie. (re­lease) Com­stock said in May she would be sup­port­ing him.
