Agriculture Secretary Defers to Reynolds

She’s expected to become governor once Branstad’s ambassadorship is confirmed.

State Ag­ri­cul­ture Sec­ret­ary Bill Northey (R) said Wed­nes­day he won’t run for gov­ernor. Northey “says he had be­gun to ex­plore a run for gov­ernor un­der the premise there might be an open seat. … Northey says he en­cour­ages Re­pub­lic­ans to back” Lt. Gov. Kim Reyn­olds (R), who said Wed­nes­day she is “pre­pared” to re­place Gov. Terry Bran­stad (R) should be con­firmed as am­bas­sad­or to China.

Reyn­olds, Bran­stad, Pres­id­ent-elect Don­ald Trump, and Vice Pres­id­ent-elect Mike Pence will at­tend a Thursday night rally in Des Moines. (AP)
