Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar (D) officially beat former congressional aide Lesli Gooch (R) after officials closed the vote count on Friday. Aguilar beat Gooch by 209 votes to move on the the general election against Navy veteran Paul Chabot (R), whom Aguilar will be favored to beat.

Democrats nearly had a repeat of the 2012 disaster in which two Republicans advanced through the top-two primary despite Democrats’ registration advantage in the district, because the Democratic vote was split among a crowded field of Democratic candidates. Aguilar beat three other Democrats in the race. (The Hill)
