Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski (D) announced his plans to run for Senate in a news release to media outlets Friday. He also posted a video to social media, which details his relationship with his wife, as well as his previous career in the ministry and as a community organizer in Chicago.

“The timing of Pawlowski’s announcement came as a surprise to even those within his party. Top state officials, including Gov. Tom Wolf (D) and … Sen. Bob Casey (D) … were in the Lehigh Valley on Friday making separate appearances as Pawlowski’s announcement dropped, but neither was informed in advance. Most Democratic members of the state legislative delegation also had no warning from Pawlowski.”

“Pawlowski spent the morning making a planned appearance at a groundbreaking event for the Allentown Parking Authority. “¦ Asked to weigh in on several national issues, including the Obama administration’s response to the Middle Eastern militant group ISIS, Pawlowski said he would not be answering policy questions for the first several days of his campaign.” (Allentown Morning Call)
