FISCAL FALLOUT: WHAT IS “RESPONSIBLE” IN TODAY’S FISCAL REALITY?

A National Journal LIVE Policy Summit

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 11, 2013 — On Thursday, National Journal will host Fiscal Fallout: What Is “Responsible” in Today’s Fiscal Reality?, an in-depth policy summit examining what is being done to solve the nation’s long-term debt problem.

A weak economy paired with high levels of government spending has put America on an unsustainable fiscal trajectory. The U.S. is already starting to see the effects, as evident in our weakening dollar, lack of foreign investment, and slowed wage growth; most economists agree that the implications of the growing debt are dire. With one of the most ideologically polarized Congresses of all time in office, can Washington come to a consensus on controlling the nation’s growing $16.7 trillion debt?

Join National Journal for a policy summit convening members of Congress and other experts to examine what it means to be a responsible leader in today’s economy.

Trump, in a statement: “Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged and Crooked Hillary Clinton and Deborah Wasserman Schultz will not allow Bernie Sanders to win, and now that I am the presumptive Republican nominee, it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher. ... I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be.”

"It's about time for unity," said UAW President Dennis Williams. "We're endorsing Hillary Clinton. She's gotten 3 million more votes than Bernie, a million more votes than Donald Trump. Some 28 percent of UAW members indicated their support for Trump in an internal survey.
