Don’t have a place to install your own solar panel? The D.C. City Council thinks you should still reap the benefits of solar energy, passing a bill earlier this week that allows solar investment to be tied to electricity bills, Washington City Paper reports.

Essentially, residents can buy into a percentage of any District solar project. That same percentage of all the project’s electricity production would then be deducted from their utility bill.

One of the bill’s advocates praised electricity provider Pepco for working in partnership with the council on the bill.
