Pence, Graham Campaign for Heller

The race appears close in the final days.

Oct. 29, 2018, 10:35 a.m.

“Vice President Mike Pence boosted voters to support both” Sen. Dean Heller (R) and state Attorney General Adam Laxalt (R) “at a rally Saturday in Carson City. … Pence fired up a crowd that gathered in a hangar the airport in Carson City. He described Heller as a ‘strong, principled conservative voice.’ He also told the crowd Heller’s work on the 2017 GOP tax law helped repeal a requirement that most Americans buy health insurance or risk a tax penalty. He said Heller is ‘100 percent pro-life’ and ‘strong on borders,’ which drew applause from the crowd.”

Pence: “The truth of the matter is that all the progress we made ... it’s all on the line.” (Reno Gazette Journal)

“Opposition to President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh should ‘blow up’ in Democrats’ faces,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said “during a Las Vegas voter turnout event. ... Graham said he was ‘pissed’ about what happened to Kavanaugh, and that Democrats should have to pay at the ballot box for playing dirty. Even with Heller in a tight race, it took a five-minute conversation with Heller to get him to a yes on Kavanaugh, Graham said.” (Las Vegas Sun)

BIG PICTURE. The “Silver State is still purple. And it takes more than a strong performance in Las Vegas for a Democrat to win Nevada. ... Veterans issues have dominated ads from Heller, who hopes to win over the state’s 225,000 retired service members. ... Then there’s the question of Latino turnout.” (Politico)

“Why Rosen hasn’t run away with it in Nevada isn’t entirely clear. She is not a bad candidate. ... The good news for Rosen is that unenthusiastic votes will count just as much as enthusiastic votes, and the Nevada Democratic machine has a good record of dragging voters to the polls.” (Weekly Standard)
