DCCC Targets CA-10, FL-26 With Spanish-Language Ads

In WV-03, Richard Ojeda slammed Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell in a new ad.

Oct. 11, 2018, 11:25 a.m.

The DCCC is out with new Spanish-languages ads targeting Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA 10) and Carlos Curbelo (R-FL 26). A TV ad and radio ad in Denham’s Central Valley district hit the congressman for voting to take away coverage for pre-existing conditions. And in Florida, the committee dropped a radio spot that accuses Curbelo of voting with President Trump 85 percent of the time and putting “at risk the Medicare and Social Security funding that we depend on for our future.” (releases)

House Majority PAC partnered with Ady Barkan, a health care activist with ALS, to release two ads against Rep. Steve Knight (R-CA 25) and for nonprofit executive Katie Hill (D). The spots accuse Knight of voting to take away health care. (release)

The Congressional Leadership Fund launched new TV ads in five districts: KS-02, MN-08, IL-13, KY-06 and OH-01. Some highlights: In Kansas, the spot calls 2014 governor nominee Paul Davis (D) a “sleazy, lawyer lobbyist.” And in Kentucky, the PAC dropped two spots, one calling retired Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath (D) “the Resistance’s candidate for Congress” and another tying her to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

And the Club for Growth is on the air in the open FL-15 with an ad accusing attorney Kristen Carlson (D) of fighting "to force the U.S. to import Brazilian orange juice despite the juice being contaminated with an FDA-banned chemical that can cause birth defects, liver damage, reproductive disorders, even death." The spot is backed by a $300,000 buy. State Rep Ross Spano (R) is Carlson's opponent. (release)

FROM THE CANDIDATES.

CA-50: Activist Ammar Campa-Najjar’s (D) latest spot hits Rep. Duncan Hunter (R) over his criminal indictments, noting the San Diego Union-Tribune editorial board called Hunter “pathetic” in its recent endorsement of Campa-Najjar. (release)

IL-12: St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly (D) attacked Rep. Mike Bost (R) in a TV ad as a career politician who has taken contributions from special interests while voting for the Republican tax cut law. (KMOV)

NJ-02: State Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D) touts his work as a dentist and state senator in his latest TV spot, highlighting his fair treatment of all his constituents and patients while noting health insurance companies haven’t done the same. (release)

OH-15: Rep. Steve Stivers (R) focuses on safety—for kids at school, job security for families, and national defense by a strong military—in his second TV ad. The spot will air this week and next on cable and broadcast. (Columbus Dispatch)

VA-07: Former CIA operative Abigail Spanberger (D) launched her 11th and 12th TV ads, with one focusing on her pledge to expand job training and to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices. The second spot features a long-time Republican and Army veteran saying Spanberger’s bipartisan tone will get more done than Rep. Dave Brat (R), who “seems more interested in scoring political points.” (Twitter)

WV-03: State Sen. Richard Ojeda (D) blasts Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in his latest ad. “Ladies and gentlemen we have been sold out,” he says in the spot. “I am angry and I am ready to fight back.” (Kantar Media)
