Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D) “shares the story of her mother’s prescription drug addiction in a new statewide TV ad launching Monday. … In the ad, Baldwin touts her work in passing the 21st Century Cures Act, which was passed by a Republican-led Congress and signed into law by Democratic President Barack Obama in 2016. The legislation made $1 billion in federal funds available for states to fight the heroin and opioid abuse epidemic. The funding, Baldwin says in the ad, is ‘just a start.’”

Baldwin: “I remember what it was like to come home from school and not be able to get into the house. I’d pound on the door but my mother wouldn’t answer. … She’d be passed out inside. My mother had a drug abuse problem. … I had to grow up fast. Very fast. … This fight hits close to home.” (Madison Capital Times)
