Venture capitalist J.B. Pritzker (D) is running a radio ad on Chicago’s African-American stations accusing philanthropist Chris Kennedy (D) developing unaffordable high-rise condos and voting to raise tuition while serving as a trustee at the University of Illinois. (Capitol Fax)

ON THE ISSUES. “Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) didn’t say on Wednesday whether he would sign a bill to require gun retailers to get state licenses, saying that he’s ready to work on ‘a number of things.’ … Rauner said … called for keeping guns away from criminals and the mentally ill, banning bump stocks and finding ways ‘to increase school safety.’” (Chicago Tribune)

“Kennedy called on Illinois legislators to halt all General Assembly pension fund investments that go to gun and ammunition manufacturers and called out opponent, state Sen. Daniel Biss (D), for being in line for those retirement benefits while simultaneously promoting gun control.” (Chicago Sun-Times)

“Rauner’s administration now says it plans to rebuild dormitories at the Quincy veterans’ home where Legionnaires’ disease continues to be a problem.” (AP)

SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY. Pritzker’s “estimated wealth … has seen a bump of $100 million since October, bringing his net worth up to $3.5 billion, according to Forbes’ latest rankings of billionaires across the globe. … But Pritzker didn’t do quite as well on the list as hedge fund magnate Ken Griffin, whose value jumped by $500 million—up to an even $9 billion. That helped Griffin—a supporter of … Rauner to the tune of $22.5 million over the last two years—to continue his reign as Illinois’ richest person.” (Chicago Sun-Times)
