Former state Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi (R) entered the race for retiring Rep. Frank LoBiondo’s (R) open seat in South Jersey.

Fiocchi and the Democratic front-runner, state Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D), “had an uncomfortable and sometimes bitter relationship during Fiocchi’s time in the General Assembly. ‘I’ve been fielding calls from folks across the congressional district asking me to consider running for Congress since shortly after Sen. Van Drew announced he was running back in November,’ Fiocchi stated in his announcement.”

“Fiocchi, 65, is a longtime Vineland resident and emphasized his family roots in the district. He comes from a family that owns a well-known, very successful irrigation business, although he separated himself from the business and is involved in real estate.”

Other Republicans are in the race including businessman Hirsh Singh (R) and former FBI agent Robert Turkavage (R). (Vineland Daily Journal)
