#ProjectRedTX, a new super PAC aimed at supporting the Republican agenda as Texas goes through redistricting, is being headed by Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) 2014 campaign manager Wayne Hamilton.

The PAC has already raised half a million dollars from a single donor: Michael Porter, “a retiree from the tiny Hill Country town of Doss.”

This comes in the wake of Abbott making redistricting a big issue in his re-election campaign, saying at a recent stop, “Barack Obama and Eric Holder are … getting involved in state and local elections because they want to change the electoral map by getting involved in the redistricting process. The last thing we need is Barack Obama and Eric Holder tinkering with Texas elections.” (Texas Tribune)

NO COMMENT. Despite his full-throated defense of gun rights in the past, Abbott has yet to comment publicly on President Trump’s recent words at a bipartisan meeting about guns.

At the meeting with lawmakers, Trump seemed to be in favor of various Democratic proposals on gun including raising the purchasing age limit for rifles to 21 and expanding background checks. During one striking moment, Trump said, “Take the guns first, go through due process second,” a controversial statement in the eyes of 2nd Amendment supporters.

Alica Tripp, the legislative director of the Texas State Rifle Association, said “I can’t even put a sentence together. That was so shocking, so unexpected.” (Texas Tribune)
