CA-39: Nonprofit executive Andy Thorburn (D) will begin airing a previously released ad on cable TV. The spot highlighted the time he spent in jail after protesting education cuts. (release)

Meanwhile, lottery winner Gil Cisneros (D) announced an endorsement from former Education Secretary Arne Duncan (D). (release)

CA-45: A new survey from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee showed housing bubble whistleblower Katie Porter (D) taking second to Rep. Mimi Walters (R), with 16 percent to Walters’s 42 percent. UC-Irvine law professor Dave Min (D) followed with 12 percent and former senatorial aide Kia Hamadanchy (D) took 6 percent, while 21 percent were undecided. In a head-to-head matchup, Porter led Walters 46 percent to 44 percent and Min led Walters 45 percent to 44 percent. The poll (Feb. 20-21; 648 RVs; +/- 3.8%) was conducted by Public Policy Polling. (release)

CA-49: 2016 nominee Doug Applegate (D) “moved his residence from San Clemente to Oceanside and was intent on jumping to the District 5 San Diego County supervisors race. But he just missed the voter registration deadline that would have allowed him to run, so he’s staying put.” That leaves a dangerous amount of Democrats in the race to replace retiring Rep. Darrell Issa (R) and the party could miss out on the general election. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
