President Trump told Sens. Joe Manchin (D) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) that their background check bill “doesn't go far enough because they are ‘afraid of the NRA.’ The bipartisan bill to expand background checks on gun sales has repeatedly failed to pass in the Senate since first being introduced in 2013.”

“At a bipartisan meeting at the White House Wednesday afternoon," Trump asked Manchin and Toomey “why their bill doesn't address changing the age to buy rifles to 21 from 18.”

Trump: "You know why? Because you're afraid of the NRA, right? Ha ha."

Manchin then responded: “It wasn't an issue five years ago, it didn't come up.” (Real Clear Politics)
