THINK TANKS: Penny Pritzker elected to chair Carnegie Endowment's board
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace has elected former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker as board chairwoman. Pritzker served in the Cabinet from 2013 to 2017 and is a longtime friend and political supporter of Barack Obama; she is also a former member of the Chicago Board of Education. Prior to her government service, she worked in the Hyatt Hotels chain, which was cofounded by her father, as well as other family-owned real estate companies.
CONSULTING: Tara Chandra signs on with FTI
FTI Consulting has added Tara Chandra to its strategic-communications unit working on Middle East and Africa issues. Chandra was most recently a vice president at the Podesta Group working on foreign government affairs. She has also worked at public-affairs firms the Rendon Group and the Harbour Group, and in the Defense Department.
LAW: Anuj Vohra moves from Covington to Crowell
Anuj Vohra has left Covington & Burling, where he had been special counsel in the firm’s government-contracts practice, for Crowell & Moring, where he will be a partner in the government-contracts group. Before his time at Covington, Vohra was a trial attorney with the Justice Department, defending agencies in procurement and contract litigation, and served as assistant corporation counsel for the city of Chicago.
CAMPAIGNS: Rebecca Pearcey, Amy Friedman among new DLCC staff
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced a number of staff moves in advance of 2018’s state legislative elections. Rebecca Pearcey, who managed Ted Strickland’s Senate campaign in Ohio in 2016, will serve as independent-expenditure director. Amy Friedman, the new deputy field director, was recently campaign manager for Gretchen Driskell’s House race in Michigan and field director for Jon Ossoff’s House campaign in Georgia. Kevin Fitzmaurice, who was hired as research coordinator, was special adviser to former Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.
CONSULTING: Jim Lake joins Nahigian Strategies
Jim Lake has joined public-affairs firm Nahigian Strategies as a principal, coming from his own firm. Lake has also served as executive vice president at DDC Advocacy and McBee Strategic. He began his career in the Reagan and Bush administrations, working in the Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration, and was chairman of the U.S. Public Affairs Practice at Burson-Marsteller.
Ali Rohde, formerly a senior analyst with public-affairs firm Hamilton Place Strategies, is the new press secretary for Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey. Democratic Rep. Jimmy Panetta of California has hired Matt Manning as his new legislative director; Manning previously worked for Rep. Brad Ashford of Nebraska as a military legislative assistant. Joanna Brown has been promoted to legislative director from senior legislative assistant in the office of Republican Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan.
