Former Obama official Sam Jammal (D) released a new ad called “Getting Off the Sidelines,” in which he outlined how Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric about immigrants pushed him into politics. As someone with Colombian and Arab parents, Jammal says, “It was really hard to just stay on the sidelines and see everything that this country is about to me, and what my family’s story is, completely under attack by Donald Trump.”
Jammal faces Cisneros, pediatrician Mai-Khanh Tran (D), and nonprofit founder Andy Thorburn (D) in the primary to challenge incumbent Rep. Ed Royce (R).
CA-49: “Behind the scenes, leading contenders have tried convincing one another to drop out, arguing that having too many Democrats on the primary ballot could lead to two Republicans in the November general election. … On Feb. 9, county officials confirm,” 2016 nominee Doug Applegate (D) “changed his primary residency from San Clemente to Oceanside — creating the possibility of running for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors’ 5th District.”
“That was two days after SEIU opened an independent expenditure committee in San Diego County to support him, should he decide to run. The only problem was that state law required he establish primary residency in the county district at least 30 days before the nomination period closed. The filing deadline is March 9. Applegate’s campaign declined to comment for this story.” (Voice of San Diego)
CA-50: Rep. Scott Peters (D-52) endorsed former Navy SEAL Josh Butner’s (D) bid against Rep. Duncan Hunter (R). (release)
