End Citizens United Boosts Lamb With $250K Ad Buy

Saccone says he will run in the redrawn 14th District in the May primary.

End Citizens United, a campaign finance reform group, is dropping $250,000 on TV and digital ads to boost former federal prosecutor Conor Lamb (D). “The ad buy will include digital video ads and a 30-second television spot attacking” state Rep. Rick Saccone (R) “for reportedly questionable use of his expense account as a state representative.”

“Rick Saccone, promised no legislative perks in Harrisburg ― called them lavish, then gobbled them up, spending $435,000 taxpayer dollars on himself,” a narrator says in the spot. (Huffington Post)

NEW DISTRICT. Saccone “is gearing up for yet another contest in the May primary and November general election even if a redrawn map excludes his home community from a new district in the southwestern corner of the state.” He’ll run in the new PA-14, which encompasses most of his current district, PA-18, but lost some of Allegheny County, making it more GOP friendly.

Saccone’s home now lies in the heavily Democratic-leaning district held by Rep. Mike Doyle (D). “On Tuesday, Saccone, in an interview with the editorial board of the Observer-Reporter, called the state Supreme Court’s map ‘horrible.’”

He described his home of “Elizabeth Township as ‘one mile outside the border, so I’m conveniently out of the district,’ and went on to describe his ties to Washington, Greene, Fayette and Westmoreland County, where he has taught at St. Vincent College in Latrobe for 18 years.” (Pittsburgh Observer-Reporter)
