Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones (D) “doesn’t live in the 13th Congressional District, where she’s running for Congress to succeed” former Rep. John Conyers (D). Jones lives in the neighboring 14th District, as did Conyers, “who resigned in December amid a sexual misconduct scandal.”

Jones is not required to live in the district, and Jones spokeswoman Acquanetta Pierce Glass noted that Jones “has represented the 13th District’s 270 Detroit precincts for over 12 years as a council member.”

The concurrent special-election and regularly scheduled primaries for the safely Democratic seat are on Aug. 7. (Detroit News)
