Rohrabacher Gets a GOP Challenger

CA-39: Lottery winner Gil Cisneros (D) snagged another congressional endorsement in his bid for retiring Rep. Ed Royce’s (R) seat. Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-24) endorsed Cisneros on Monday. Carbajal: “When Gil gets to Congress, he will fight to drive down health care costs, invest in job training, and work to expand access to higher education for all.” (release)

CA-48: Businessman Paul Martin (R) launched a run against Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R), slamming the congressman’s ties to Russia. Martin: “Dana Rohrabacher no longer works for us. Ethics investigations point to allegiance to Vladimir Putin, In these perilous times, it’s imperative that we have solid, honest, ethical representation in Congress — someone who puts country before party, always.” (release) Several Democrats are eyeing the seat, including businessman Harley Rouda (D) and stem cell biologist Hans Keirstead (D).

POLLING. “Majorities of likely voters in the districts of” Rohrabacher and Rep. Steve Knight (R-25) “aren’t happy with” President Trump “and are disinclined to vote for their representative’s re-election,” according to polling “conducted by the University of California, Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) in mid-January. … Among those voters in Rohrabacher’s district who disapprove of Trump, 86 percent are not inclined to support their congressman’s re-election bid. In Knight’s district, that figure rises to 90 percent.” (Sacramento Bee)
