HEALTH CARE: Kim Callinan takes over as Compassion & Choices CEO

End-of-life-rights organization Compassion & Choices has promoted Kim Callinan from chief program officer to CEO, with former CEO Barbara Coombs Lee staying on as president. Callinan has been with the organization since 2015. She began her career in politics, with stints working in voter contact at the Democratic National Committee and EMILY’s List, and as executive director of the Maryland Democratic Party. She then worked in health public affairs with GMMB and IQ Solutions.

LOBBYING: Christian Morgan and Alexander Schenck sign on at Husch Blackwell

Husch Blackwell Strategies has added Christian Morgan and Alexander Schenck as principals to its federal lobbying team. Morgan was chief of staff to Republican Rep. Ann Wagner of Missouri from 2012 to 2017, and in the 2008 cycle he was executive director of the Kansas Republican Party. He also consulted on 2010 and 2012 House campaigns for Axiom Strategies in Kansas City. Schenck was most recently a legislative aide to GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska, focusing on science and environmental issues.

AGRICULTURE: Mary Kay Thatcher moves to Syngenta

Agribusiness giant Syngenta has hired Mary Kay Thatcher as senior lead for federal government relations. Thatcher spent the past 31 years at the American Farm Bureau Federation in a variety of roles, most recently senior director of congressional relations. Earlier in her career, she was an aide to former Republican Sen. Roger Jepsen of Iowa, and director of congressional and public affairs for the Farm Credit Administration.

CONSULTING: Atima Omara hangs a shingle

Democratic consultant Atima Omara has started her own firm, the Omara Strategy Group. Omara was president of Young Democrats of America from 2013 to 2015 and is an elected Democratic National Committeewoman and vice chair of the DNC Women’s Caucus. She ran for the Virginia Assembly in 2014. Omara also worked for Sen. Mark Warner when he was governor of Virginia, and on a number of state, federal, and local races.

LAW: Margo Tank lands at DLA Piper

DLA Piper has hired Margo Tank as a partner in its intellectual property and technology practice’s tech, data, and commercial subgroup. Tank comes from BuckleySandler, where she was a partner focusing on financial technology. She previously worked for Goodwin Procter and as counsel for the House Financial Services Committee under then-Chairman Jim Leach, R-Iowa.


Republican Rep. Dennis Ross of Florida has promoted Kyle Glenn to chief of staff from deputy chief of staff; Timothy Cummings, currently Ross’s legislative director, will now also serve as deputy chief of staff. Brandon Cockerham, formerly of Judicial Watch, is the new communications director for Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia. GOP Rep. Carlos Curbelo of Florida announced two promotions: Adam Wolf moves from legislative director to chief of staff, and former chief of staff Roy Milan Schultheis moves to the post of senior adviser.
