State House Speaker Mike Turzai (R) and state Sen. Scott Wagner (R) were the clear primary leaders in the state Republican Party’s regional caucus staw polls.
In the Southwest, which is the home of Turzai, attorney Laura Ellsworth (R), and health care consultant Paul Mango (R), Wagner outperformed them all and received 30 votes from Republican committee members. Turzai was second with 28. In the Northwest, Turzai received 23 votes compared to 14 for Wagner.
"When combined with the four other regional caucus straw votes, Wagner won 175 - which his campaign says it has confirmed is the number needed to win the state committee's endorsement. Turzai's combined total from the six regional caucuses is 113 while Mango collected 16 votes and Ellsworth, 3."
These results come in the wake of the upcoming Republican State Committee meeting at Hershey Lodge where members will decide whether to endorse any of the candidates. (PennLive)
