Former state party Chairman Gary Emineth (R) said Wednesday that he will challenge Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D). “Emineth is a close friend of” Rep. Kevin Cramer (R), who declined a Senate bid, “and ran the congressman’s campaign in 2012.”

Emineth “said he believes he’ll have ‘plenty of money to tell the story that Heidi does not support the president.’” He “was a founding member of North Dakota’s Tea Party Caucus in 2011. He resigned in 2012 to manage Cramer’s primary campaign for the U.S. House.”

State Sen. Tom Campbell (R) is the only other candidate in the race.

“Delegates will pick their preferred candidate at the North Dakota GOP convention in April.” (Washington Post)

FUNDRAISING UPDATE. Campbell announced he raised $450,000 in the fourth quarter. He did not reveal his cash on hand. (release)
