Former Professor to Primary Fischer

Heidel called Fischer's vote for the tax bill "highly irresponsible."

Former mathematics Professor Jack Heidel (R) will run for Sen. Deb Fischer's (R) seat, becoming the second Republican to launch a primary challenge to the first-term senator.

Heidel said his campaign will emphasize cutting down the national debt and called Fischer’s recent vote for the tax bill “highly irresponsible."

Heidel: "When [senators] ignore their most basic responsibilities to the people, they need to be challenged in the political process. This is what I am doing."

Earlier this week, Todd Watson (R), a 2012 Senate candidate, declared he would also run for the GOP nod. (Lincoln Journal Star)
