Former mathematics Professor Jack Heidel (R) will run for Sen. Deb Fischer's (R) seat, becoming the second Republican to launch a primary challenge to the first-term senator.
Heidel said his campaign will emphasize cutting down the national debt and called Fischer’s recent vote for the tax bill “highly irresponsible."
Heidel: "When [senators] ignore their most basic responsibilities to the people, they need to be challenged in the political process. This is what I am doing."
Earlier this week, Todd Watson (R), a 2012 Senate candidate, declared he would also run for the GOP nod. (Lincoln Journal Star)
