The county party chairmen of Essex, Passaic, Morris, and Sussex announced their support for former Navy helicopter pilot Mikie Sherrill (D). Morris County Chairman Chip Robinson said Sherrill is building “brick by brick … the type of foundation we need in order to beat Congressman Frelinghuysen in the fall.” Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R) is a 22-year incumbent in the district, and the endorsement marks “the first time that all four counties have come together early to mount a serious challenge.” Sherrill joins three other Democratic candidates competing for the seat, in a district poised to become a battleground with the GOP in 2018. Other candidates vying for the Democratic nomination include former National Guard specialist Jack Gebbia (D), international divorce coach Tamara Harris (D), and International running club President Mark Washburne (D).
