Former state House Majority Whip Jay Goyal (D) “has ruled out a run for the congressional seat vacated Monday by” former Rep. Pat Tiberi (D). Goyal, who was being urged to run by Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-03) and Franklin County Commissioner John O’Grady (D), “said he was ‘honored and humbled’ by those who offered encouragement and support.”

“Some prominent central Ohio Democrats had been hopeful that Goyal, 37, could help their party win a seat that has been held by Republicans since 1982. Beatty called Goyal ‘brilliant’ and ‘a hard worker,’ while O’Grady last week called Goyal a ‘prolific fundraiser’ who ‘knows large chunks of this district very well,’ having represented much of it while in the Ohio House.”

“The primaries for both the special election and full two-year term is May 8; the special election for August 7 to serve the remainder of Tiberi’s term this year, and the general election is Nov. 6 for the full two–year term starting in January.” (Columbus Dispatch)
