MD-06: Former MD-08 candidate David Trone (D) “indicated Monday he would make the opioid crisis a central issue of his campaign, laying out the first detailed policy proposal in the crowded race.” He “said he would support Congress approving $100 billion in new funding over 10 years to confront the epidemic. His plan also calls for allowing the government to negotiate lower prices for overdose medication and expanding prevention programs in grade school, among other ideas. … Trone is one of at least five Democrats and two Republicans who have started raising money” for the district, which Rep. John Delaney is vacating to run for president. (Baltimore Sun)

MS-03: Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves (R) “said he wouldn’t seek the congressional seat being vacated by” Rep. Gregg Harper (R). (AP) But state Sen. Sally Doty (R) “is expected to announce her candidacy” for the seat soon. (Clarion Ledger)

Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) is also considering a bid for the seat. “Hyde-Smith received several calls of inquiry and encouragement after Harper’s announcement” and said she’s not ruling out a run. (Brookhaven Daily Leader)

NM-01: Business consultant Lloyd Princeton “announced Monday that he will seek” Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s (D) “seat as a Libertarian. … Libertarian candidates are expected to have ready access to the general election ballot in New Mexico in November because of a strong local showing in 2016 by presidential candidate Gary Johnson.”(AP) Lujan Grisham isn’t running for re-election.

PA-01: Minister Michele Lawrence (D) “is about to mount a campaign” against Rep. Bob Brady (D), joining former Philadelphia Traffic Court Judge Willie Singletary (D) and Deputy Philadelphia Mayor Nina Ahmad (D) in the effort to topple the incumbent. “Lawrence graduated from Rutgers University in 1991 and spent more than 25 years working her way up in the ranks at Wells Fargo Bank, eventually rising to the senior vice president of the Philadelphia retail market, which includes 39 locations. She became ordained in 2016 and left the bank in January 2017 to start Michele Speaks,” a public speaking group. (Philadelphia Magazine)

PA-09: State Sen. Richard Alloway (R) will not run for retiring Rep. Bill Shuster’s (R) seat, citing continued work to do in Harrisburg. But 2014 candidate Travis Schooley (R) announced a run for the seat. “He served as an intelligence analyst in the U.S. Army and was a non-commissioned officer with the Pennsylvania Army National Guards for 10-years.” (Chambersburg Public Opinion)

TX-02: “In a crowded race to replace retiring” Rep. Ted Poe (R), state Rep. Kevin Roberts (R) is hoping a growing list of endorsements will give him an edge. “As he knocks on doors, Roberts is giving potential voters a handout that includes a glowing endorsement from Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. … Roberts is also touting endorsements from Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle and Harris County Constable Mark Herman.” (Houston Chronicle) Nine Republicans are running for the seat.

THE LATEST

"Democrat Jared Golden has defeated Maine Rep. Bruce Poliquin in the nation’s first use of ranked-choice voting for a congressional race, according to state election officials. The Democrat won just over 50 percent of the vote in round one of ranked-choice voting, meaning he’ll be the next congressman from the 2nd District unless Poliquin’s legal challenges to the voting system prevail. A Golden win in the 2nd District, which President Donald Trump carried in 2016, mean Democrats have picked up 35 seats in the House."
