Sen.-elect Doug Jones (D) “is set to be sworn into office Wednesday in Washington.”

Former state Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore (R) “did not concede to Jones and filed a lawsuit alleging voter fraud in the race, but the suit was thrown out of Montgomery County Circuit Court after a judge ruled the court did not have jurisdiction over the matter. Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill said Saturday that the deadline had passed for Moore to seek a recount using his own funds. The state threshold for an automatic recount is a .5 percent margin.” (

Jones’s victory was certified last week.

STAFF HIRE. Jones has selected as his chief of staff Dana Gresham,a former Assistant Secretary for Governmental Affairs at U.S. Department of Transportation under Anthony Foxx. He will be the only African-American Democratic chief of staff in the Senate. (TV One)

COMING UP: “Jones will face an early challenge in January, when Congress must pass legislation to keep the government funded beyond mid-January. A source of tension has been whether to allow for similar defense and nondefense spending increases, as Democrats want, or to give military spending a more substantial increase, as many Republicans have advocated.”

“A similar balancing act will be tested on whether to use public-private partnerships to finance the large infrastructure package that” President Trump “has envisioned and … [Senate Majority Leader Mitch] McConnell wants to pursue.” (Wall Street Journal)
