All signs point to a developing Democratic wave in 2018, but continued growth and rising consumer confidence could conceivably stem Republican losses.
President Clinton and the Democratic Party thrived politically in the late 1990s thanks to a strong economy. Republicans now have to hope that strong economic indicators will similarly boost their prospects in next year's midterms.
