Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) endorsed Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson.

Rubio: “I got to know Jeff during the 2016 Presidential Campaign. … Jeff is part of a group of next-generation conservatives around our country who are successfully offering new, bold policies that are making people’s lives better.” (release)

Johnson’s campaign manager was Rubio’s presidential campaign’s Minnesota director last year.

DOWN SIDE. “Some Minnesota Republican donors, activists and operatives are having trouble mustering excitement for the announced candidates in the 2018 governor’s campaign — a winnable race, in the eyes of many, that would award them full control of state government for the first time in half a century. … Many Republicans are waiting on” state House Speaker Kurt Daudt (R) and former Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R). “Asked if the speculation is affecting the campaign,” state Sen. David Osmek (R) “acknowledged it is a factor” in courting delegates’ support. (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS. “Next year, all but one of the 10 prominent Democratic and Republican candidates vying to replace” Gov. Mark Dayton (D) said “they would continue the tradition of releasing their tax information.” Only Osmek “said definitively that he would not make the voluntary disclosure.” (Twin Cities Pioneer Press)
