State Rep. Scott Drury (D) “announced Monday he has picked his campaign manager from a recent Illinois House race to serve as his running mate next year.” Alex Hirsch, 26, “was described by the Lake County lawmaker’s campaign as a ‘long-time, trusted advisor to Drury, both formally and informally.’” Other candidates have already announced their running mates, and “businessman Chris Kennedy (D) is expected to announce his running mate this week.” (Chicago Tribune)

STAFF CHANGES. Gov. Bruce Rauner’s (R) Education Secretary Beth Purvis “is leaving for the private sector, a departure that comes just weeks after he cut a deal with Democrats to overhaul the way Illinois distributes money to public schools. … Purvis was instrumental to helping craft a deal on education spending [and] acted as a key negotiator and adviser as legislators used findings from the group to propose various plans. … Purvis drew praise from legislators on both sides of the aisle for helping shepherd through that law.” (Chicago Tribune)
