NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers (R-OH 15) conceded Monday in an MSNBC interview that 70 seats could be in play in 2018. Referring to the millions spent in Georgia’s special election on Tuesday, Stivers said neither party could afford to duplicate that investment in a cycle with “70 competitive seats.” (Washington Times)

UP NEXT. Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI 01) “is promising to overhaul the tax code by the end of the year despite political divisions among Republicans and a crowded legislative agenda for Congress. Ryan is due to give a speech on tax reform Tuesday afternoon to the National Association of Manufacturers.” (AP)

BIPARTISANSHIP. “A bipartisan group of House lawmakers asked the Trump administration Monday to reconsider its support for ending the federal tax deduction for state and local tax deductions and warned that eliminating the break would result in even higher taxes for people in high-tax states. … Monday’s letter was led by two New Jerseyans:” Reps. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ 09) and Leonard Lance (R-NJ 07). “While most of the signatories were Democrats, the letter also included several blue-state Republicans.” Reps. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ 03), Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ 11), and Chris Smith (R-NJ 04) signed, as did” Reps. Peter King (R-NY 02) and Claudia Tenney (R-NY 22). (Washington Examiner)
