Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) said Thursday that they will vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch. The two senators are the first Democrats to support Gorsuch.
Manchin: “I have no illusions that I will agree with every decision that Judge Gorsuch will make in the future, but I have not found any reasons why this jurist should not be a Supreme Court justice." (release)
Heitkamp: “After doing my due diligence by meeting with Judge Gorsuch and reviewing his record and testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I’ve decided to vote in favor of his confirmation. He has a record as a balanced, meticulous, and well respected jurist who understands the rule of law. He has unique and critical experience with tribal sovereignty, Indian law, and public lands issues in the west, and has received the endorsement of numerous tribes and major Native American organizations.” (release)
ON THE AIR. The Judicial Crisis Network launched a new $1 million TV and digital ad buy Thursday to promote Gorsuch, beginning with a national cable buy. State ads will also start running “soon” in four states with Democratic senators who haven’t announced their position on Gorsuch: Missouri, Montana, Colorado, and Indiana.
In the Indiana ad, a narrator says, “Sen. Donnelly has a choice: Be another liberal, who puts politics over country. Or do what’s right and support this outstanding judge, Neil Gorsuch.” (release)
