McGuire Hires Campaign Manager for Likely Bid

Other Democrats could jump into the race.

Former state Demo­crat­ic Party Chair Andy McGuire “has re­portedly hired Maura Tracy as her [2018 gubernat­ori­al] cam­paign man­ager and is shoot­ing an an­nounce­ment video this week.”

Oth­er po­ten­tial can­did­ates in­clude state Sen. Nate Boulton (D), Dav­en­port City Al­der­man Mike Mat­son (D), state Rep. Chris Hall (D), pro­gress­ive act­iv­ist Jack Hatch (D), John­son County Su­per­visor Mike Car­berry (D), and state Sen. Janet Petersen (D).

“That adds to Jonath­an Neiderbach, who has already an­nounced, and” state Rep. Todd Prichard (D) and Former state De­part­ment of Nat­ur­al Re­sources head Rich Leo­pold (D), who have cre­ated ex­plor­at­ory com­mit­tees.

“Giv­en the dy­nam­ics of the emer­ging field, Iowa Demo­crats seem to be hurt­ling to­ward a McGuire nom­in­a­tion. Not from a groundswell of grass­roots sup­port for the former IDP chair, but be­cause it’s look­ing in­creas­ingly likely that she could be the only fe­male can­did­ate in a six or sev­en-per­son field.” (Iowa Start­ing Line)
