Ritchie, 39, is an Elvis impersonator. He also manages the vast legislative portfolio of the committee. He carries a fake Elvis Presley ID in his wallet. When he was in high school, he says he and a friend teamed up to rent themselves out to parties as impersonators. He still breaks out his Elvis act for family and staff, but his love for Elvis is not exclusive. Next to the Elvis photo in his wallet, he carries the business card

that his future wife gave him when they met. They have two children.

Ritchie interned in Goodlatte’s district office in 1996 before law school, then spent three years at the Patent and Trademark Office. When he learned that Goodlatte’s chief of staff had resigned to run for the Virginia Legislature, he phoned Shelley Husband to ask about an opening. His timing was perfect. The office was looking for a new legal counsel with patent experience. As a bonus, Ritchie grew up in Goodlatte’s district.

He has been with Goodlatte for 11 years.
