In an interview, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Steve Stivers (R-OH 15) predicted Donald Trump would appoint some Democratic members of Congress to his administration, creating special-election pickup opportunities for the GOP.

He also called Reps. John Mica’s (R-FL 07) and Scott Garrett’s (R-NJ 05) districts top 2018 targets.

Stivers: “There have been exceptions to the rule where an incumbent president’s party has gained during the midterm, 2002 for example. Now that was right after 9/11, and George Bush and Republicans kind of wrapped themselves in the flag and gained seats, so it can happen.” (The Hill)
