Ted Cruz, the tea-party Texan who has made it his mission to repeal Obamacare, has found a rare area of common ground with the White House: Cruz praised Attorney General Eric Holder for deciding to seek the death penalty against accused Boston Marathon attacker Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

“I am pleased that Attorney General Holder has decided to seek the death penalty in the case against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It is crucial that the United States send a message across the world that terrorists who seek to attack our homeland and bring harm to our citizens will be brought to justice and receive the severest punishment under our laws,” Cruz said in a statement.

The statement comes after Cruz aggressively questioned Holder earlier this week over the Justice Department’s investigation into the IRS for allegedly targeting tea-party groups that sought tax-exempt status.

Tsarnaev is accused in the attack that killed three people and injured more than 260.
