Herbert, Johnson Agree to Debate

It’ll be the first Republican debate of Herbert’s reelection campaign.

“The first de­bate between Gov. Gary Her­bert (R) and two of his fel­low Re­pub­lic­an chal­lengers,” Over­stock.com Chair­man Jonath­an John­son (R) and “self-de­scribed grass-roots can­did­ate” Nate Jensen (R) have agreed to de­bate for the first time at April 11 at 9 p.m. loc­al time, “nearly two weeks be­fore the state GOP con­ven­tion.”

“John­son, who has long sought de­bates with the gov­ernor, said Fri­day he hopes to high­light their dif­fer­ences ‘in style, thought pro­cess and ac­tion’ for con­ven­tion del­eg­ates as well as voters in the state’s June primary elec­tion.”

“Her­bert’s cam­paign man­ager, Marty Car­penter, told KSL … that the gov­ernor will talk about the state’s strong eco­nomy and oth­er achieve­ments as well as what he still wants to ac­com­plish in of­fice.” (Deser­et News)

Her­bert and John­son ap­peared to­geth­er re­cently at a for­um that in­cluded Demo­crat­ic can­did­ates.
