A new InsiderAdvantage poll (IVR) shows businessman David Perdue (R) leading the pack by 8 points. Former Secretary of State Karen Handel (R) and Rep. Jack Kingston (R) battle for second place with 18% and 17% respectively (May 7, 531 LVs 4.2%). The same poll two weeks ago had shown Perdue and Handel tied for first. The seven Republican contenders will face off in a May 20 primary, with the top two likely advancing to a July 22 runoff. (release)

FUNDRAISING: Several pre-primary FEC filings are in, showing what candidates raised for the month of April. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

-Perdue added another $1 million to his campaign. He also brought in $219,267 in donations in April, finishing with $467,275 in the bank.

-Rep. Paul Broun raised $142,580, spent, $192,039 and totals $180,843 on hand.

-Handel raised $135,000, spent $180,000 and has $337,000 in the bank.

OUTSIDERS: American Future Fund is backing Handel with a positive TV ad and a six-figure ad buy. The free-market group joins a number of tea party organizations seeking to push Handel into the July runoff. The spot, which touts Handel’s “results” working against Obama and balancing a budget, will air statewide on network and cable TV. (Politico)

COMMON CORE: Kingston is attacking Perdue on Common Core with mailers that pair the businessman and the president. Kingston compares the controversial education standards to Obamacare regulations. The mailers take a quote from Perdue in which he says “Common Core I have no problem with.” (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
