Bruning Internal Has Him Leading, and Many Undecided

Dick Cheney expresses his support for Pete Ricketts; Cruz to campaign for Ricketts Friday.

An in­tern­al poll re­leased by the cam­paign of At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Jon Brun­ing (R) shows him slightly up ahead of next Tues­day’s primary. The poll, con­duc­ted by the Wick­ers Group (R) (May 4-6; 451 GOP LVs; +/- 3.9%), has Brun­ing lead­ing busi­ness­man and 2006 Sen­ate nom­in­ee Pete Rick­etts (R) 26-20%, fol­lowed by state Sen. Beau Mc­Coy (R) and state Aud­it­or Mike Fo­ley (R) at 13% each. State Sen. Tom Carlson (R) trails at 4% and at­tor­ney Bry­an Slone (R) fol­lows with 3%. Twenty-two per­cent re­main un­de­cided. The poll was con­duc­ted be­fore Brun­ing re­ceived the en­dorse­ment of Gov. Dave Heine­man (R). (Leaven­worth Street)

Mc­Coy, Rick­etts and Brun­ing also all came out with a new ads Thursday. Mc­Coy’s ad at­tacks both Rick­etts and Brun­ing for “spend­ing mil­lions on end­less neg­at­ive at­tacks” and a nar­rat­or claims he’s “sur­ging” in the race des­pite polls that show he’s a dis­tant third. Rick­etts new ad, “Be­lieve” fea­tures him talk­ing dir­ect-to-cam­era about his hope for the state’s fu­ture, and Brun­ing’s ad fea­tures foot­age from Heine­man’s en­dorse­ment an­nounce­ment earli­er this week. EX-VEEP CHIMES IN. Former Vice Pres­id­ent Dick Cheney (R) told the Lin­coln Journ­al Star on Thursday that Rick­etts would be “‘a great gov­ernor’ for his nat­ive state.” Cheney said: “I want to ex­press my strong sup­port for Pete”¦Neb­raska runs deep in our fam­ily, and I have an in­terest in this state”¦I know Pete Rick­etts well. I sup­por­ted him in his Sen­ate race in 2006. I have served with him on the board of trust­ees of the Amer­ic­an En­ter­prise In­sti­tute. He is a good man.” (Lin­coln Journ­al Star)

CRUZ CON­TROL. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) “will re­turn to Neb­raska Fri­day to head­line an Omaha rally for Rick­etts.” Cruz pre­vi­ously en­dorsed Rick­etts back in April. (Lin­coln Journ­al Star)
