Marine Corps Reserve veteran Ed Jany (I) has a “completely fake” bachelor’s degree from Madison University, a non-accredited school that has no campus and is often called a “diploma mill.” Jany attended the University of Minnesota for four years but did not receive a degree, and said he was told by Marine Corps education advisors that Madison University was a good option to complete his coursework. But one professor who has studied diploma mills said Jany “must certainly have known it wasn’t legitimate, because they would have just taken his money and given him the credentials.” (Tampay Bay Times)

HANISEE REGRETS CALL TO SYKES, WON’T APOLOGIZE. Pinellas County Democratic Party Chairman Mark Hanisee said he regreted calling local NAACP chapter President Manuel Sykes (D) and telling him he would be “persona non grata” if he stayed in the race. But Hanisee would not apologize, saying in a statement, “if I thought I did something wrong, I would apologize.” Hanisee said he respects Sykes but that Sykes “needed to know the hard reality that awaited him on the path he was taking.” The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and former candidate Alex Sink (D) ultimately endorsed Jany.
