A Remington Research (R) (IVR) poll (Oct. 11-13; 663 LVs; +/-3.8%) conducted for former congressional aide David Young (R) shows him leading former state Sen. Staci Appel (D) by 4 points, 46-42%. (release)

APPEL AD CONTRASTS PLATFORMS. Appel released a TV ad saying she and Young “differ on the issues — you might say we’re like apples and oranges.” The ad then says Young would “give millionaires tax breaks” and end the Medicare guarantee. (release)

IOWA REPUBLICAN ON YOUNG’S ‘SCHIZOPHRENIC CAMPAIGN.’ The Iowa Republican, a conservative website, criticized Young’s “schizofrenic campaign” after he said in a health care forum that Obamacare is “here to stay” and that he could do more good trying to fix it than repeal it. The site points to how that stance undermines arguments he’s made in campaigns ads: In one primary ad, he said Obamacare had “ripped apart our health care system,” and a current ad criticizes Appel for saying “what we shouldn’t be doing is repealing it.” (Iowa Republican)
