Rep. Janice Hahn (D) announced she will not run for reelection next year, instead running for an open seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. “The problem is, Washington is broken. It’s increasingly mired in political gridlock, and there’s virtually zero cooperation between the two parties,” Hahn said. “That’s not the kind of government I grew up with. … I can do more for the Los Angeles region on the Board of Supervisors.” (Los Angeles Times)

Hahn’s district is reliably Democratic.

State Sen. Isadore Hall (D) quickly said he will run for Hahn’s seat, before she officially announced her decision. “Other potential candidates include Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino (D), South Gate City Councilmember Maria Davila (D), and South Gate City Clerk Carmen Avalos (D).” (Roll Call)

After Hahn’s announcement, Hall released a statement casting himself as the next in line for Hahn’s supporters, calling Hahn “a close friend, a role model, and someone who I plan to work closely with both throughout this campaign and well beyond.” (release)
